With carts multiplying like bunnies, Japadog is a runaway success story.  Striving to supply ‘the most delicious hot dog in the world’, Japadog’s first hot dog stand was on the corner of Burrard and Smithe streets in the downtown core and since then Japadog stands have proliferated culminating in a permanent location on Robson street, as well as an outpost in New York.  I walk by their first location almost daily and I’ve regularly seen a queue of 15 people patiently waiting for their lunch – and with good reason.  Ever a fusion hater (the more specific the better in my book), I was reluctant to try the popular meal in a bun.  But for some reason, the Japanese condiments combined with North American street meat just works.  The Oroshi is my personal favourite – the cool, refreshing grated radish and green onion act as a welcome counterpart to the salty, dense hotdog.  My boyfriend also likes the Terimayo, which combines your choice of hog dog (beef, turkey, bratwurst, veggie) with a teriyaki-mayo blend, finished with dried seaweed.  Sound unappealing?  Just try it, everyone else has.  (EL)
