Charles H. Scott Gallery
On Granville Island and part of Emily Carr University of Art + Design, the Charles H. Scott Gallery is worth wading through the tourists to get to. The CHS focuses on contemporary thematic group shows that have an educational component and solo exhibitions that give insight into an artist’s means of production. Notable exhibitions include a presentation of legendary New York artist Dan Graham’s writing on sex, drugs, rock-n-roll, art, and architecture for publications from the 1960s; an exhibition exploring the sea, and more specifically the lighthouse, pairing the work of Rodney Graham and Tacita Dean, as well as including the work of emerging artists like Andrew Dadson, Christine D’Onofrio and Holly Ward in solo and group shows. In conjunction with Emily Carr University Press, the CHS publishes innovative artists’ books, monographs and projects. The gallery also houses the city’s best-stocked art bookshop.
