Pacific Standard Time was a mammoth city-wide event that saw an unprecedented sixty institutions in southern California collaborate on a series of exhibitions, performances and events that examined art production in the region between 1945 and 1980 spearheaded by The Getty. While the events concluded this past June, Art Journal has recently published a special issue commemorating this momentous event and reflecting on its highs and lows. In addition to exhibition reviews by noted curators and scholars such as Connie Butler, Malik Gaines and Jan Tumlir, the issue also features an artist project by the quintessential Californian Allen Ruppersberg which appears on the cover and on every interior page, and a conversation between deputy director of the Getty Research Institute, Andrew Perchuk, Thomas Crow and Howard Singerman. You can preview selected content from the issue online here.
