In honour of the 150th anniversary of the London Underground, Penguin has released a series of twelve books inspired by each of the city’s tube lines. The eclectic selection of authors includes artist Philippe Parreno, the creators of the journal Fantastic Man, Gert Jonkers and Jop van Bennekom, and best selling author John Lanchester. While each of the tales are as disparate as their authors, collectively they explore how we are all connected and how our encounters with public space shape our existence. The books are beautifully designed, with the colour treatment of each corresponding to the Tube line under discussion while the authors designed the cover illustrations. Although the books are available in e-book versions, this definitely seems like a situation where the physical book is infinitely more desirable.
