On top of being one of Toronto’s best butcher shops, Sanagan’s Meat Locker located at the heart of Kensington Market, now also provides great sandwiches for lunch. These include the Bo Sammy (a Korean inspired pulled pork sandwich topped with kimchi slaw) or their classic roast chicken which is carved right there piping hot off their rotisserie. Make it a combo with fries for only $10. A decent lunch deal. My favourite is most definitely the Bo Sammy, with its not overly spicy kimchi kick and exquisitely executed pulled pork. It has that perfect meat to bun ratio one is always looking for in a sandwich, yet can seem so elusive. With their recent relocation just a few stores down from their cramped previous incarnation they have also expanded their butcher counter. While waiting for your sandwich to be prepared choose from a vast selection of meats for dinner including such beyond the regular fare like marinated rabbit and elk tenderloin, or something as simple as veal and pork sausage. I chose the latter and fried them at home for an autumn country supper with some wonderful roasted red heirloom carrots that I also found in the Market and a basted free range egg. Lunch and dinner, Sanagan’s has got both covered in style.

Sanagan’s Meat Locker is located at 206 Baldwin Street.
