Shut Up and Play the Hits

When LCD Soundsystem called it quits in 2011 the band was at the top of its game. Their 2010 album, This is Happening, had achieved critical and commercial success and had catapulted the band to the center of the American music scene. They were in demand, having achieved a level of fame that most musicians only dream of, yet they announced on their website in February of 2011 that an April show at New York’s Madison Square Garden would be their final performance before dissolving. For those of us who were not able to attend this epic 4-hour show and are still mourning the loss of LCD Soundsystem, the documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits should be a welcome consolation. The film, which documents the 48 hours leading up to the concert and includes footage of the show and its aftermath, promises to provide fans with a final glimpse at the band. While Shut Up and Play the Hits premiered at Sundance and has been making the festival rounds, it will be released in US theatres for one night only on July 16th.
