Upcoming Doug Coupland show @ VAG

I’m working on the upcoming solo survey show of the artwork of celebrated author, artist and designer Douglas Coupland which opens at the Vancouver Art Gallery next May. Many fans who have followed Doug’s books for years will be surprised to know that he actually graduated with a BFA from art school (Emily Carr College of Art and Design) before penning his ground-breaking book Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture. After taking about a decade off from art-making, since around 2000 he’s been back at it full-force. This will be Doug’s first major solo show so it’s quite an exciting project to conceptualize and pull together. People outside the art world often ask what exactly a curator does, curious about the work that goes into producing a large-scale exhibition and some of this intense process will be made transparent on a microsite dedicated to the show and the process of its making which you can find here. Best of all, Doug will be contributing to the blog regularly, ensuring it will be an enjoyable read!
