VAG Cafe Patio

Despite being located in the heart of Vancouver’s downtown core, the Vancouver Art Gallery’s Cafe patio feels like a quiet oasis amidst all the chaos below. With its semi-secluded second floor location, well manicured gardens, and excellent vantage point for people watching, the Cafe patio is a rare gem in a city sorely lacking in outdoor dining options. While the Cafe patio is always a great destination whenever the sun is shining, today they begin their summer hours — open until 9 every night — making the patio an even more attractive option for after work drinks. The VAG cafe summer programming includes patio table service, an expanded menu of sharable snacks, and live music, transforming the low key Cafe into an evening drinking destination. Their wine selection includes both local BC varietals and Old World imports, all extremely reasonably priced, and you can even get a bottle of bubbly for $30. My favourite snack offerings are the very generous cheese plate and the homemade pita chips, which never disappoint. There really isn’t a better spot in the city to grab a glass of wine and catch up with friends while soaking up the sun, but be sure to get there early. As soon as five o’clock hits, available tables become scarce.
