Hotel de Russie
On a recent trip to Rome we had the great pleasure of checking in to the Hotel de Russie, an elegant and decadent option in The Eternal City. Located centrally on the Via de Babuino right beside the Piazza del Popolo, an elegant neoclassical urban square, the hotel is a stone’s throw away from the Spanish Steps and famous shopping street, Via Condotti. Loved by Italians and tourists alike, it is perhaps best known for its ‘secret garden’, a large, tropical, beautifully terraced garden that overlooks the hotel and provides an oasis in what can be an exhausting city. In order to make use of this lovely feature, the Russie mainly revolves around the back courtyard over looked by the gardens. Le Jardin de Russie, the hotel’s first-rate and delicious restaurant, has an airy inside space and a lovely outdoor dining area, overlooked by the gardens.
The Stravinskij Bar – one of the chicest in Rome – offers well-crafted cocktails that can be enjoyed inside a sleek grey bar or outside overlooking the lush gardens. If the tempo of Rome becomes too much then one can retreat to the spa, which offers a sauna, steam bath, salt water whirlpool, and all the massages anyone could want. For people who feel the need to workout after so much indulgence, there is also an up-to-date gym with personal trainers available. Elegantly appointed studio rooms, decorated in a sophisticated and soothing palette, have a comfortable bedroom with sitting area, a dressing room with large walk-in closet, and a sizeable (if slightly dated) bathroom. The Russie is certainly a lavish option in the capital, and with its unparalleled luxury, a stay is definitely a splurge – but worth every penny. Without question though, after our experience there we found the best feature of the hotel to be the staff, who work tirelessly to make all the guests feel loved.
